trans:mission
As part of this year’s trans festival, a local mini-fest is taking place over three days and two venues.
Trans:mission brings together promoters, industry organisations and media partners to celebrate the good and the great of NI music.
The gigs kick off on Wednesday 8th July, where Moon Unit, Skibunny and Nakatomi Towers take to the Stiff Kitten stage.
On Thursday 9th July The Waterfront Hall plays host to a music industry afternoon in association with NIMIC and The Princes Trust. Speed-workshop session will be taking place from 3-5pm, with time for casual networking from 5pm onwards. Workshop sessions will broadly cover the areas of Touring, Recording, Management/Legal Issues, Publishing, Marketing/Promotion and Label Issues. Confirmed ‘mentors’ at these sessions include Chris McCourt (Island Records), Simon Pursehouse (Sentric Music), Peter Flemming (White Mountain Music), Nick Fitzsimons (Penny Distribution), Jennie McCullough (Bruised Fruit), Fran Cotton and Dick Miller (Rightsman).
Later that evening both the Waterfront Studio and Penthouse bar will be ringing with the sounds of the best local music, featuring performances from The Lowly Knights, Panda Kopanda, Desert Hearts, Seven Summits, Dutch Schultz, John Shelly and the Creatures, Strait Laces and Before Machines. Phew!
On the afternoon of Friday 10th July, with a little help from Ossia Music School, the Waterfront Penthouse Bar will be transformed into a metal moshpit with Escape Fails, Valkaine, Circadian and Silver Cord all playing sets.
Meanwhile down in the Waterfront Studio, URMUZIC present the debut screening of ‘A Little Solidarity’, a documentary filmed around last November’s amazing festival.
Later that evening, the stars of ‘Solidarity’, And So I Watch You From Afar take to the stage in the Waterfront Studio with support from Panama Kings, Ablespacer and Axis of, whilst upstairs in the Penthouse Bar the experimental sounds of When Pilots Eject, Continuous Battle of Order, Chipzel and JL Seagull will compliment views of the setting sun over the city.
Tickets for each evening are priced at £6, and afternoon events are £3. You can also purchase a 2-day ticket for £10 which allows access to all the events in the Waterfront. The ‘Music Industry Afternoon’ is free to attend. All events held in the Waterfront Hall are open to all ages, with alcohol available for over 18s.
